Guam Regional medial City Community Forum TONIGHT at Hilton

Guam -? The Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) hosted its first ?Community Update?, a forum aimed at providing information to key leaders of the community on the plans and progress on the new private hospital.

The forum is happening at the Hilton tonight at 6.

Margaret A. Bengzon, President and CEO of Guam Healthcare Development, Inc, which owns and operates the GRMC, addressed guests from the Office of Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo, the 31st Guam Legislature, the Mayors? Council of Guam, Guam Healthcare and Hospital Development Foundation, University of Guam, Guam Community College, U.S. Naval Hospital Guam, and Andersen Air Force Base, among others.? Representatives from dck pacific guam, LLC, the project?s Construction Manager at Risk, and Setiadi Architects LLC were also present at the event held at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa.

The Medical City (TMC), the largest health care network in the Philippines and a Joint Commission-accredited Philippine healthcare organization, will operate the GRMC, a 130-bed tertiary hospital that will be located in Dededo.? GRMC is expected to open its doors in 2014.? GRMC?s services will be aligned with TMC?s centers of excellence and the region?s specific health profile, featuring wellness, cardiology, medical oncology, endocrinology, pulmonology, neurology and other medical and surgical subspecialties. TMC?s unique value proposition of patient empowerment and partnership will provide a strong foundation for all of its programs and services.

Bengzon said.? ?We will continue to engage the community in the process of building Guam?s first private hospital, to keep everyone informed and involved, and to reiterate our commitment to Guam and the Micronesia region.? Bengzon also reported on the progress of the project.? At the project site, work is progressing towards a flurry of activity.? Mass excavation/site cut and fill has begun.? Concurrently, work has begun for the installation of the easement roadway for construction traffic access and the temporary water line for the site.? Workers will begin forming the pads for the site office foundations with the goal of having site offices in place by the end of March.? On the operations side, prequalification requests are being forwarded to subcontractors for all scopes of work and responses are expected to be received no later than March 19, 2012, after which all information received will be reviewed.? To date, all vegetation has been cleared, six inches of topsoil have been removed from the site, and Best Management Practices (BMP?s) have been installed.

On the design side, 90% design development, fast track mass grading and foundation permit set were completed in January.? Design documents will be submitted shortly for the building permit application and final design completion is expected by early May.

The GMRC will have 130 beds with an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Intensive Maternal Unit (IMU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), LDR (Labor-Delivery-Recovery), an Emergency Department, and an Operating Room Suite.
